Jordan befriends his neighbor Donnie Azoff, and together they launch a boiler room-style brokerage firm. They recruit Jordan's childhood friends—Robbie Feinberg, Alden Kupferburg, Nicky Koskoff, Chester Ming, and Toby Welch—as well as local drug dealer Brad Bonick. Jordan trains them in aggressive sales techniques and sets up shop in an abandoned auto repair garage. 

Their scheme revolves around a pump and dump strategy, where they inflate stock prices with misleading positive statements, only to sell their shares at the peak. Once the stocks are sold, the prices plummet, leaving unsuspecting investors with worthless shares. To lend an air of legitimacy, Jordan names the firm Stratton Oakmont in 1989.

The company quickly gains traction, outgrowing the garage and moving into larger offices. An exposé in *Forbes* labels Jordan "The Wolf of Wall Street," portraying him as a twisted Robin Hood who enriches himself at the expense of others. This notoriety attracts hundreds of ambitious financiers to the firm, prompting further expansion into even bigger spaces.
